Terms of Use

1. What Metaphrast does

Metaphrast translates text and shows how to pronounce it (IPA, romanization, an easy respelling and audio). The translations and pronunciations are generated by AI models. We work hard to make them accurate, but they can contain mistakes, so don't rely on them where an error could cause harm, for example for medical, legal or safety instructions. Use a qualified human translator for those.

2. Your account

You can use the Free plan without an account. Paid plans need an account, which you sign in to with a code sent to your email. Keep access to that email secure; you are responsible for what happens in your account. You can delete your account at any time from the website or the app.

3. Plans, payment and renewal

• Free: up to 10 translations in any hour, into a selection of languages.
• Pro: 150 translations a month (any rolling 30 days), all languages and the full details.
• Pro+: 500 translations a month (any rolling 30 days), everything in Pro, plus Precision mode (up to 100 of those translations).

Prices are shown before you buy. Pro and Pro+ are subscriptions billed monthly or yearly, and they renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel. On the website, payment is handled by Stripe and you can cancel any time under Manage subscription. In the apps, payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account; the subscription renews unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings. When you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.

Refunds for app purchases are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. For website purchases, contact us and we will follow the refund rights that apply where you live. We may change prices for future periods; we will tell you before a change applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.

4. Fair use

Please don't misuse the Service: no automated scraping or reselling of results, no attempts to get around the plan limits, no sharing one paid account between many people, no attacks on the Service, and no unlawful, hateful or abusive content. We may limit, suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

5. Your text and our translation database

You keep the rights to the text you enter. To run the Service, your text is sent to our servers and to our AI provider. Translations that pass our quality checks are stored, without your name or account, so the same request can be answered faster later and to improve the Service. You give us permission to use your text in this way. Please don't enter passwords or other sensitive personal information. The Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why.

6. Our content

The Metaphrast name, logo, app and website belong to us. You may use the translations and pronunciations you get for your own purposes, including in your own work.

7. No warranty and limits of liability

The Service is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we don't promise that it will always be available, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded.

8. App store terms

If you use the iOS app, these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple and Google are not responsible for the Service or for supporting it.

9. Changes and ending

We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and we will tell you about important changes. You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may stop offering the Service; if we do, we will tell you in advance and stop renewals.
